Announcing – Those Who Wait Book

Drumroll…

The wait for the book on waiting is finally over!*

Announcing:

Those Who Wait: Finding God in Disappointment, Doubt and Delay

– Tanya Marlow

Coming 16 Oct 2017

“For 8760 days I have been walking that tightrope of hope and disappointment, and I don’t know if I can walk it much longer. What I really longed for from the Creator that day by the stream was action, not words.

“I wanted fulfilment: instead, God repeated the promise.

“I cling to the words, but sometimes I feel as if my whole life has been a long wandering, a long hunger that hasn’t yet been satisfied.” – Sarah’s Story, in Those Who Wait

Everyone is waiting for something – a bus; an appointment; better health; a spouse; a space you can call your own; the time to do what you want to do, not just what you have to do. Ultimately we are all engaged in the longest wait of the world – Christ’s coming, and Christ’s return.

Yet waiting is hard – awkward, irritating at best. For those waiting for decades, it can be agonising, bringing the perfect storm of disappointment, doubt, frustration and isolation.

This book is for those who are waiting, which is all of us. It is for those who find waiting hard, which is most of us.

How does the Bible tell us to wait? It’s tempting to think it tells us to live stoic, uncomplaining lives, with compulsory inner joy.

But the Bible is a lot more honest about the weight of waiting. As it turns out, the Bible characters were humans who battled with waiting, just as we do. Those Who Wait tells the stories of Sarah, Isaiah, John the Baptist and Mary in their own voices, immersing ourselves in their world. Through their lives we come face to face with ourselves – and the mysterious grace of God.

Those Who Wait will comfort the despondent and unsettle the comfortable.

With outstanding storytelling plus reflection questions, creative exercises and six separate Bible studies, it is perfect for personal devotion or church group study.

If you are a church leader, then please leave your email below for how you can get hold of a free advance copy. For everyone else, it will be available online on October 16th – put the date in your diary.

Endorsements are coming in for the book already, and here’s what Mark Meynell, Director of Langham Preaching (Europe and Caribbean) and author of A Wilderness of Mirrors and Cross Examined had to say:

“Tanya Marlow has had to wait for years… and she is still waiting. That has brought pain and heartache, tears and frustration, interspersed by occasional glimpses of sustaining hope and light.

“From her background of chronic illness comes a book which lets the Scriptures fire your imagination and enter into the faith journeys of four great ancient saints. The result will make her a cherished friend in print to countless readers, especially those who battle their own seemingly interminable struggles. What a blessing this book is!”

I can't tell you how excited I am about this book! Click To Tweet I’m so delighted to share it with you. #ThoseWhoWait

Do celebrate with me – and wish me luck!

*Well, it’s still a wait of about 6 weeks, but who’s counting…?

    Hi Tanya.
I’m a small group leader at my church and always looking for new material to delve into. So your new book looks really exciting. I’m also a person with M.E. and atypical facial pain (i.e. constant toothache caused by neuropathic pain) who has been waiting for healing for 15 years! Finding your web page, articles and videos has come at the right time for me.

I was feeling despondant and last night I put the following question into Google:-
“What purpose can my life have as a Christian with M.E.?” That’s how I found you and your work. Thank you for your honesty and the effort it must take to write and do interviews. It’s been encouraging and has provided some light in a dark place
    .
All the best for the book launch!
