That time my book became a bestseller – Those Who Wait

– still trying to believe it as I hold up my book

The Wait is Over!

If you somehow haven’t heard the news by now – Those Who Wait, my NEW full-length book released this week! Here were some highlights of the launch week, and some great resources for you to check out.

Those Who Wait: Finding God in Disappointment, Doubt and Delay is a creative and transformative journey through the lives of four Bible characters who wrestled with waiting. Immersing ourselves in their stories, we find renewed perspective, empathy and purpose for when life seems stuck on pause. Above all, we meet God, even in the midst of our frustrated longings.

Unboxing

This is me, seeing my book for the first time:

Those Who Wait was a bestseller on Amazon.co.uk in three categories! It had a little orange bestseller tag beside it, and that made me very happy. Does this make me a bestselling author?? It was a ‘hot new release’ in the category of Christian Living.

It was amazing to see Those Who Wait alongside the likes of Pete Greig, Kenneth E Bailey and Max Lucado in the Amazon Christianity bestsellers:

Reviews so glowing they’re practically neon

On Amazon.co.uk it currently has 50 reviews – and really detailed, heartfelt ones. They’re really worth reading through to see if you’d like to read the book. That’s fifty reviews in 6 days! I can’t quite believe it, and I’m blown away by the response to the book.

Some people are loving it for the fresh look at the Bible – even for people who are overfamiliar with or tired of Bible studies. It’s also great for those who’ve never read the Bible before.

Others are seeing it as a transformative experience that speaks to their own longings and periods of in-between.

Even those who got an advance review copy of the e-book are then buying the paperback for themselves and their friends or recommending it for their church small group for Bible study!

“It is only the exceptional teacher or preacher who revives [the Bible’s] immediacy for us…Tanya Marlow is one of those exceptional teachers.”

This review, by author Michael Wenham, made me cry – see if it makes you cry, too.

Podcasts and Radio

If you like hearing my voice, you’re in for a treat this week! These were all the broadcasts I featured in this week:

Written Interview

“Whenever we think of how Christians “should” deal with times of uncertainty, we conjure up a picture of stoicism and simultaneous holy joy. Plus a thriving prayer life and complete trust in God.

“Well, if that’s what makes a good Christian, call me a failure. I’m the girl who can’t wait.”

On Saturday, Annie Rim interviewed me on She Loves Magazine, which you can read here.

Synchroblog

I invited other bloggers to join in, writing a post on the theme of waiting. Their poems and responses to the themes of waiting are amazing. This is a great way to get to know other excellent bloggers. Join in (link closes Weds) or just read their work here.

Audiobook – a note

Many of you have asked about the audiobook, and when it will be out. The answer is: I will be recording the audiobook myself, so I need three things to be in place before it goes live. 1) I need to know the levels that Amazon require for audible, 2) I need to work out the technology of how to turn my studio microphone + GarageBand into a good recording, 3) I need the health and energy to record and edit it. I’m hoping, though, to have it out before Christmas. That’s my aim – but I’ll have to see how it goes. There WILL be an audiobook, though.

This week I’ve felt…

As well as M.E., this week I’ve been brought low with a bad cough. Because my muscles are so weak, I cough like a ninety-year-old, my breath in gasps, my eyes flowing, and my body shuddering in each coughing fit. My stomach aches from the workout that the coughing is giving me – and I’ve lost precious, healing sleep as a result. Health-wise it’s not been great.

BUT.

I have been surrounded by love, celebrated by friends and strangers, affirmed in my gifting as a theologian and writer. I have had the joy of pushing my book out of the nest and seeing it fly.

This week has felt like a microcosm of my life. My body is weak, but my heart is full – and I have all of you to thank for that. THANK YOU.
