I am no prayer warrior

Today I am honoured to be guest-posting for Micha Boyett for her This Sacred Everyday series. Micha is one of my favourite bloggers, and she always pushes my thinking on matters of spirituality. It is a privilege to be on her site today.

“This is sister Sue,” my Mum said. “She’s a Prayer Warrior.”

It was an excellent description. If I had a spiritual army, I would have had her at the front; a fiery, sword-whirling Boudicca, stirring up the hearts of people to do battle.

Her method for prayer sounded thrilling, but exhausting. At that moment, I knew in my soul: I am no prayer warrior. As far as prayer goes, I’m not even a prayer Morris-dancer. It’s all just a bit too much like hard work.

Come with me to Micha’s place and read the rest.

Oh I can relate to this! Well, except that I don’t think I’ve achieved even a fraction of the ability to pray that you have. I don’t struggle with illness, but for the years I was non-stop travelling I was frequently so isolated that very often it was just me and God, but our conversations weren’t very good. The one prayer I’m very good at is, saying “Lord, I’m so glad that other people pray!”

I can totally relate to feeling that my conversations with God are a little ‘sub-standard’! It’s hard, this praying business, isn’t it?? Thanks so much for stopping by here today.

Sometimes I just breathe a prayer. Not lately have I spent an hour in my closet praying, but that might be worth considering. As a teen I promised to pray 15 minutes for a prayer chain at our church. Oh those 15 minutes were soooo long. I wake with a thank you prayer on my lips. Thank you prayers is a great way to thank God for working on your behalf and for all those who you did breathe a pray on – that he is answering your prayer.

I love your thought about starting with a thank-you prayer – it’s sure to encourage a spirit of prayerfulness throughout the day. Thanks so much for coming by!
