Today I’m telling you about two opportunities to hear my voice.
- 30 seconds or less – Enneavember. I was asked to provide a pithy quote about the enneagram 2 (the ‘helper’) and creativity. (Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about the enneagram, a sort of personality questionnaire thing with spiritual overlay – it still makes sense without knowing). Hilariously, my 30 seconds-or-less quote was longer than 30 seconds. That nice Jim Kast-Keat made it into a snappy video, so I’m revelling in the fact that I sound über-professional, though not a little sardonic. - TWR Interview – 3pm, Sunday 30 November. TWR is a Christian radio station that broadcasts in over 160 countries all over the world. This Sunday, at 3pm GMT, I will be featured on the TWR bookclub, being interviewed about faith and sickness. They will also be featuring some books on the topic. If you can tune in, please do! Wonderful podcast. Such a truthful, balanced view of suffering and the ways in which we don’t deal well with hard topics.
I particularly appreciated what you said about Job and anger – YES! So often Job is used to bludgeon us into premature ‘godly’ and acceptable attitudes, but one of the most defining moments of my relationship with God was daring to come to Him with my anger. That still, small voice lovingly said, “Finally, the real you has shown up.” That seriously changed everything. Reading now I find so much comfort in Job. I wonder sometimes if people are reading the same book because I’m seeing so much that isn’t taught. When I read the Psalms, I see not just the praises, but the laments as well. Why are we lopping off so much of the Bible that is there to help us?
Your mention of the church member who sends you weekly email updates was deeply touching. I think back now of the members I knew who stopped coming to church due to illness and so wish I knew then what I know now. But I was too busy doing ministry, you know. It grieves me.
So sorry for my delay in replying. Thanks so much for taking the time to listen to my podcast for TWR! I love that perspective of how God has spoken to you in the midst of your anger. That is so powerful. “I’m seeing so much that isn’t taught” – yes, I totally get that. Job was a complete revelation to me when I read it alone.
