How to deal with discontent

Tanya climbing Bow Fell

“Sometimes the church tells me that I should not be sad, because Jesus is enough. My longings tell me that though Jesus may be enough, I do not always see Jesus clearly, feel him near. Jesus may be enough, but I do not yet have enough Jesus.

“We do not walk with God quite as we did in Eden. Not yet. We need to listen to our longings. They speak truth to us.”

Amber C Haines is the author of Wild in the Hollow, and one of the best poets out there. I’m thrilled to be at her place today, writing on some of the themes that emerge from her book – our longings, and how they speak to us of Eden. Won’t you join me there?

(Also – a fair warning – after weeks of it being quiet around here, this week is going to be super-busy! And then it will calm down again.)

I hope the busyness is from things already completed by you so this week isn’t too much! And I’m excited to read your words this week. 🙂

So sorry for the delay in replying. Thanks, lovely Janice. I’ve been ALL OVER THE PLACE but hoping to slowly get my act together again.

Hi! I’ve had fun reading your replies this morning.

And does it make you feel better to know that my default feeling is ALL OVER THE PLACE? And I don’t mean doing insightful, well-written guest posts all over the internet. I mean doing half the laundry, half of dinner, half the dishes and forgetting to comb my own hair before leaving the house. My daughter’s been sick for the past forever and it’s making things even worse.

You know, watching my daughter just have to make it through the end of this sickness, eating and drinking when she doesn’t feel like it, having to sit on the couch and rest even if she feels a little better, makes me remember your article above. The idea of being somewhere unpleasant and that somehow, the way through it is just through it. She’s longing to get better and I’m longing for the same. I’m not sure this is making much sense, and I know a few days of a stomach bug is hardly huge on the list of difficulties in life, but I’m seeing some sort of truth in there.

        xoxo
