“You can’t explain it, why it didn’t bother you last year, but now it bothers you all the time. You feel a tightness in your chest. Your faith, once so freeing, now feels like it is suffocating you.”
This one is for all those who have ever caught themselves doubting, for anyone who has had a faith crisis and emerged out the other side – I’m at the Mudroom today – come with me?

I put together 3 Christian meditation YouTube playlists for 3 different faith responses to chronic illness (the doubt one comes with a warning!)
Thank you- I’m sure this will be a useful resource for many.
Everyday for the past two weeks it’s felt like I’ve been drowning and today it feels like I will die. . To pray and beg and wait on God to answer a prayer that I have cried for YEARS, only to have it finally at the tip of my fingers and then snatched away. . I’m losing what little faith I have left. .
dear K – I am so sorry to respond so late on this, but I just wanted to say I am feeling this frustration with you. It sounds so hard – like you are clinging on by your fingernails. It is exhausting to pray for so long and see no answer. I’m hoping you have good people who can stand by you in all this.
Yes, been there too. Very difficult at the time, and took me 4 years to climb back to a good place, but now I am so thankful to have learned and grown. I am doing better in life and relationships because of it. Phew, who’d have known! Bless you Tanya
Hi Jacky – thanks so much for this comment, particularly for sharing that it took you four years of going through a faith crisis. I don’t think many churches talk about just how long it can take to regain/rediscover faith when you are in a season of doubt.
Thanks, Tanya. As you say, you’re not alone when your faith crumbles, but it sure feels like it. So thank you for your raw honesty again. I look forward to the day when I’m rapt in wonder again – perhaps when I’m not so tired. Meanwhile, I’ll share your tenderness with a friend who’s in a dark place.
Michael – I know you get this. There will be a day when you are rapt in wonder again, of that I am certain. Thinking of you as you live in the in-between.
